Welcome!

You have accessed the blog site for Choosing and Using Books for Children. Throughout the term we'll use our blog to record the books we read and the ideas we have for using them when we're teachers. By the end of March, our class will have read at least 280 books. Happy reading!

Two important protocol actions for EVERY post:
1. Underline or italicize all book titles (choose one formatting style and stick with it--underline OR italicize for all book titles)
2. Add your name in the "label" box before you post each documentation.

One important recommendation:
Create your documentations in a separate Word document, then cut and paste in a blog post.

Andrew's Loose Tooth

Basic Documentation
Book Title: Andrew’s Loose Tooth

Author(s): Robert Munsch

Illustrator/Photographer/Artist: Michael Martchenko

Publisher: Scholastic

Copyright Date: 1998

Genre: Contemporary Realistic Fiction

Brief Annotation:
Andrew has a loose tooth that won’t come out. His parents and the dentist try but (humorously)have not luck. A tooth fairy comes in riding a motor cycle but again…the tooth just won’t come out! How can they remove the tooth so Andrew can eat?

Your Rating (1-5) and why: 5
This book was too funny…It was a definite read aloud and laugh
out loud. The illustrations were an
added bonus. There are repeated patterns
that make a read along fun and a chance for students to yell out, ‘yeee-ow’. I enjoyed the many chances to make predictions
and the final unexpected solution to the problem.

Readers who will like this book:
Readers that enjoy calling out repeated patterns; readers that
enjoy funny-unexpected events; students that are of the age of losing teeth;
students that believe in the tooth-fairy; and readers that like surprise
solutions to problems.

Question to ask about this book before a read aloud:
By looking at the cover, can you predict the problem in the
story?
Who do you think will be able to solve Andrew’s problem? How and what makes you think this?

Optional, but noted as extra effort:

1. Interest Level (age): 5-7

2. Grade Level Equivalent (grade): 2.8

3. Does
this book have a book trailer? http://www.teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=162981&title=Andrew_s_Loose_Tooth
