Book Title: Tomie’s Little Mother Goose
Author(s): Tomie DePaola
Illustrator/Photographer/Artist: Tomie DePaola
Publisher: G. P. Putnam’s Sons
Copyright Date: 1997
Genre: Folklore
Brief Annotation:
Tomie DePaola uses his unique artistic style to illustrate a picture book for beginning readers. DePaola uses a diverse blend of well-known and less familiar nursery rhymes to entertain beginning readers and provide them with the opportunity to ‘read’ some of their favorite ‘songs’ or ‘rhymes’.
Your Rating (1-5) and why: 4
I enjoy DePaola’s illustrations. The book has some rhymes preschoolers might be familiar with and other rhymes in the book may be new to them. This is good in that it has potential to reach a diverse group and introduce new vocabulary to early readers. It also allows for students to make connections and ‘read’ along to those nursery rhymes they are already familiar with.
Readers who will like this book:
Beginning readers that enjoy DePaola’s artistic style
Beginning readers that enjoy ‘reading’ texts as they say memorized song/poems
Beginning readers that enjoy nursery rhymes

Welcome!
You have accessed the blog site for Choosing and Using Books for Children. Throughout the term we'll use our blog to record the books we read and the ideas we have for using them when we're teachers. By the end of March, our class will have read at least 280 books. Happy reading!
Two important protocol actions for EVERY post:
1. Underline or italicize all book titles (choose one formatting style and stick with it--underline OR italicize for all book titles)
2. Add your name in the "label" box before you post each documentation.
One important recommendation:
Create your documentations in a separate Word document, then cut and paste in a blog post.
