You have accessed the blog site for Choosing and Using Books for Children. Throughout the term we'll use our blog to record the books we read and the ideas we have for using them when we're teachers. By the end of March, our class will have read at least 280 books. Happy reading!

Two important protocol actions for EVERY post:
1. Underline or italicize all book titles (choose one formatting style and stick with it--underline OR italicize for all book titles)
2. Add your name in the "label" box before you post each documentation.

One important recommendation:
Create your documentations in a separate Word document, then cut and paste in a blog post.

Brief Annotation: This book takes us through the journey of our main characters, which started its life as an egg. It hatches to become a caterpillar. This caterpillar is very hungry. As the days of the week progress, so does its food consumption. On day one, the caterpillar east one red apple, day two it eats two green pears and so on. This book helps children learn the numbers 1-5, days of the week, and colors. The caterpillar cocoons itself and eventually becomes a beautiful butterfly.

Your Rating (1-5) and why: 5 – Eric Carle uses amazing illustrations in his books. He teaches children about counting numbers 1-5 but also uses the days of the week in his book. He brings to life his characters with his words and illustrations.

Readers who will like this book: Young children who are just learning to count. Also children who are interested in the life cycle of caterpillars will definitely enjoy this book.

Question to ask about this book before a read aloud: Have you ever eaten so many sweets that it gave you a stomachache?
