You have accessed the blog site for Choosing and Using Books for Children. Throughout the term we'll use our blog to record the books we read and the ideas we have for using them when we're teachers. By the end of March, our class will have read at least 280 books. Happy reading!

Two important protocol actions for EVERY post:
1. Underline or italicize all book titles (choose one formatting style and stick with it--underline OR italicize for all book titles)
2. Add your name in the "label" box before you post each documentation.

One important recommendation:
Create your documentations in a separate Word document, then cut and paste in a blog post.

Brief Annotation: Harriet Tubman was born into slavery and lived most of her life trapped in a dangerous world where she was treated as property instead of a person. Harriet hears the words of God and decides to begin a long journey to freedom. Harriet escapes and though she seems alone, God is always with her, helping her along the way. She makes it to freedom only to return again and again to help her people leave the life of slavery and join her in freedom through the Underground Railroad. Harriet Tubman was determined and inspirational in her efforts to free as many as 300 slaves.

Your Rating (1-5) and why: 5 – The story of Harriet Tubman is educational and inspiring. The way in which this story is told, through Harriet’s thoughts and her speaking to God is done beautifully and elegantly. The journey that she took that risked her life and the life of her followers is told in a way that is easily understood. The illustrations are amazing and extremely well done.

Readers who will like this book: Anyone who are learning about slavery or civil rights will find this book intriguing. People who are spiritual will like this book. Also, people who are interesting in the history of slavery and the Underground Railroad will enjoy this book.
